The Challenge - by Josh
To Everyone:This morning, I had the opportunity to attend a stake-wide priesthood meeting. Our stake has taken upon itself a new initiative. One which is comparable to the one started last year by President Gordan B. Hinkley. Similar to last year, our stake president has challenged the stake to read the entire Book of Mormon before the end of the year, but instead of merely reading it to read it, our stake president has presented us with a goal. That goal is to read the Book of Mormon with the intent of uncovering the true nature of Jesus Christ.
As I sat there and pondered the new challenge from the stake president, my mind drifted to something which I had started to think about while in Hawaii, but had just then, in that moment, unfolded the idea enough to where I could explain it. While in Hawaii, just before our baptismal session in the Laie Hawaii Temple, the first counselor of the temple presidency encouraged us to be sensitive to the spirit and seek a witness for those whom we were performing the ordinances. Additionally, he testified that there were some spirits who had received permission from the Father so that they could be present at their own proxy baptism. I thought about his remarks and wondered why I couldn't see those spirits.(see more by Josh Nicholls)
